The Giza Pyramids are a lasting expression of the power of the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. The pyramids were constructed as tombs for the pharaohs, where they would be buried with their treasures to facilitate their journey to the afterlife. The pharaohs of the Old Kingdom from the 27th to the 22nd century BCE commissioned the building of the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx, The Valley Temple, and the Worker’s Village on a rocky plateau on the west bank of the Nile River.
The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only one of the ancient wonders that still stands today. The Pyramid has a height of 138 meters and a square base with 230 meters on each side, it used to be even taller at 146.5 meters, and it was the tallest structure made by humans for 3,800 years. The Great Pyramid has many other structures around it such as tombs for relatives, smaller pyramids for queens, two temples, and boats that were buried.
The oldest colossal stone statue in Egypt is the Great Sphinx which was built around 2500 BC by the pharaoh Khafre. The Sphinx is 73 meters in length from its front legs to its tail and 20 meters in height from its base to the top of its head. The face of the state is believed to depict Khafre himself, however, now it is with a missing nose and beard. The Sphinx is aligned from west to east and looks eastward to the rising sun.
The Valley Temple of King Khafre is in much better shape and well-preserved compared to the temple of Khufu. The mortuary temple is located east of the Pyramid, it is bigger than the older temples and has all the features of later mortuary temples such as a hall for entering, five recesses for the statues of the pharaohs, the court with columns, and a holy chamber, and five rooms to store things.
Enjoy your tasty lunch at a beautiful restaurant overlooking the Nile or the Pyramids, and then join your tour guide to visit:
The Egyptian Museum is the world's biggest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts as it has more than 170,000 items to witness. The museum demonstrates the history of Egypt from the Pre-Dynastic Period to the Graeco-Roman Era. The Egyptian Museum was founded in the 19th century by the French Egyptologist Auguste Mariette, and it was the first museum in the Middle East and North Africa to be built to preserve antiquities.

The Valley of the Kings is an ancient site of royal burials, it lies on the west bank of the Nile in Luxor which was once called Thebes. The Valley of the Kings is more than a burial city, it is a place that is full of secrets, death stories, treasures, glory, and mummies. The rulers of the new kingdom in 1500 BC chose this place as their final resting place, and that is how the Valley of the Kings came into being.
Hatshepsut was a queen who became a pharaoh (1507 - 1458 BC) it was a rare position for a woman in ancient Egypt. The Queen was a feminist before the term itself existed as she built an incredible temple (15th century BC) for herself and her father which is one of the most amazing structures in all of Egypt. Hatshepsut also built many other buildings and monuments and filled them with statues of herself to show the ancient Egyptians her authority. Hatshepsut temple at Deir El Bahri is her crowning glory, and it took over fifteen years to finish.
Then, you will be transferred to have a tasty lunch at a local restaurant in Luxor before moving to visit:
The Colossi of Memnon were built in 1350 BC to protect the beautiful temple of Amenhotep III, but they developed some cracks in their bodies. The statues were carved from single sandstone blocks, and they weigh 720 tons and they are 18 meters tall. They are statues of the king “Amenhotep III” on a decorated throne with two seats. The pharaoh wears the Nemes which is the royal headdress and the divine cobra guards him, his hands rest on his knees as he faces the east and looks at the Nile River.
